Care Act Assessments for Local Authorities

We can assist your local authority with care and support assessments and reviews.

Since the implementation of the Care Act in 2015, it has placed a duty upon local authorities to undertake an assessment of an adults’ care needs if it appears that they require an assessment. The information gathered is then used to develop a support plan. The purpose of a support plan is to detail the support the person requires. This might include assistance to wash and dress, prepare or eat their meals or travel to college or recreational activities. Support might be provided by friends, family or paid for by the local authority (subject to eligibility and a financial assessment).

Regardless of how the person’s care needs are going to be met, or who is going to pay, the person is still entitled to an assessment from the local authority.

Obtaining an assessment from the local authority is even more important following the Government’s announcement introducing the capping of adult social care costs from October 2023. To start counting towards your care cap, you will have to have a care needs assessment from your local authority.

It is no secret that many local authorities are struggling to complete care needs assessments in a timely fashion. In July 2021, almost 7000 people had waited more than six months for a care needs assessment. At Simply Social Work we can assist with this predicament.
