Dr Chantel Cox
Chantel qualified as a nurse in 2005 after completing a BSc (Hons) in Clinical Nursing at Bournemouth University. In 2007, she joined an interdisciplinary team supporting people living with complex health conditions, working closely alongside hospital social care services. It was within this role that Chantel developed a strong commitment to person-centred care, with a particular focus on meeting the individual needs of people living with cognitive impairment.
Motivated to improve services and raise standards of care, Chantel moved into research in 2011, becoming a research nurse specialising in dementia and neurodegenerative disease across the South of England. In this role, she managed multiple clinical trials involving Parkinson’s disease, Huntington’s disease, and dementia.
In 2014, Chantel completed a Master’s degree in Clinical Research at the University of Southampton, further refining her interests in older people’s medicine and rehabilitation. She subsequently worked as a senior nurse within a community rehabilitation service while undertaking doctoral studies. Her PhD in rehabilitation explored how healthcare interactions influence older people’s sense of self and identity.
More recently, Chantel transitioned into education as a Senior Lecturer in Adult Nursing at Bournemouth University, preparing the next generation of nurses to deliver compassionate, evidence-based care. Alongside her academic role, she served as a member of the NHS Research Ethics Committee, contributing to the ethical review and governance of national health research projects. She also continues to act as a peer reviewer for the Journal of Clinical Nursing, supporting the advancement of nursing knowledge and practice.
Chantel’s approach to practice is informed by a strong academic foundation combined with extensive clinical experience. Guided by values of individuality, collaboration, and innovation, she is committed to fostering inclusive and supportive environments where people’s unique identities are recognised and valued.
Outside of her professional roles, Chantel is the founder and Chair of a local children’s charity supporting families affected by life-limiting and terminal illness.
